Toward Solomon's Mountain: The Experience of Disability in Poetry

Some brief overview of book

This is a must-read for anyone interested in crip-culture and self-expression. I was very surprised at how many of the disabled writers were so well published. While I can't say that I identified with everything written (when is that ever the case), there was much that resonated deeply or that was simply well crafted and worthy reading regardless of topic.

Although the poems certainly represent a more contemporary and honest disability experience, I believe the book was publisned in the 80s and perhaps lacks the very latest in awareness and rebellion of our post ADA world. A fair number of the writers represented were in their late 60's at the time and capture well an experience lost on our current generation . At the same time, this is a work that begs to be updated to include current voices.
