Dante's Divine comedy: 15th-century manuscript

Some brief overview of book

I'm torn between giving this 3 or 4 stars. It's a translation of Dante's work but it reads so quick I'm wondering about it. The narration by Nino Ravenna through Hell, Purgatory and Paradise is not in poem format but is set out as more of a guide to Dante's travels but it glides along with ease so I'm left wondering more about the actual poem as before I started it but I guess it was a nice introduction to the original poem which I shall no doubt read when I get hold of a copy and probably struggle with!

However, this is a book more about the illuminated manuscript than the actual poem and the images included here, of which there are many, are rather nice being from the original, and published here for the first time, from the 15th century manuscript held in the Marciana National Library, Venice. The short commentaries by Professor Samek-Ludovici on each of the the images is a nice bonus. Hence my wavering over 3 or 4 stars.
