Visual Arts Educator

The Visual Arts Educator at the Comic-Con Museum Education Center makes comics-based learning accessible. The visual arts educator designs and implements learning experiences that provide an on-ramp for all learners to make comics and other visual media, like films.


  • Assist in teaching analog and digital comics making to learners of all ages and experience levels
  • Assist in teaching media production and digital literacy skills to learners of all ages and experience levels 
  • Assist in facilitating classes, field trips, and other educational offerings centered on visual and media literacy for learners across the lifespan
  • Assist in design and implementation of project-based learning in visual arts and media 
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and functional environment, including basic maintenance of tools and materials
  • Assist in completing occasional graphic design tasks for the museum
  • Demonstrate an ongoing passion for the popular arts, including comics, film, television, and gaming
  • Demonstrate an ongoing passion for museum and informal education 
  • Participate in curriculum design, iteration, and adaptation 
  • Take responsibility for maintaining educational spaces and supplies 
  • Participate in and facilitate special events 
  • Demonstrate a willingness to participate as a co-learner with other staff and community members 
  • Adopt a thoughtful, reflective stance toward diversity, inclusion, and the experiences of marginalized identities in educational settings and museums 
  • Communicate professionally and respectfully 
  • Work well independently and collaboratively 
  • Demonstrate high proficiency with Google Suite, Adobe suite, and other tech tools used for 21st Century Learning 
  • Willingly adhere to parameters of IP use and brand management
  • Perform other duties as assigned

  • An associates degree in a related field (art, education, museum studies, etc.)
  • One or more years of experience as an educator working with youth
  • Basic knowledge of culturally-responsive/ culturally-sustaining pedagogy, especially with graphic novels, comics, and pop culture
  • Record of achievement on collaborative teams 
  • Significant, demonstrable expertise with media literacy
  • Expertise with relevant tools and technology, including Google Suite, and Adobe Suite, in addition to other physical and digital media
  • Ability to learn new company software as needed 
  • Preferred three or more years of experience as an educator
  • Preferred Bachelor’s degree in education, engineering or other related fields 
  • Preferred current teaching licensure 

  • Professional office environment
  • Routinely uses standard office equipment 
  • Flexible availability is required, as schedule will be based on organizational needs
  • Regularly work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
  • Fast paced and crowded conditions (both inside and/or outside convention centers)
  • Direct (face-to face) customer and vendor contact
  • May be required to work outside with little or no shade and warm temperatures

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is frequently required to stand, talk and hear.
  • This position requires close visual acuity to perform an activity such as preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and extensive reading
  • This position may require walking primarily on a level surface for periods of time.

  • $19.00 – $21.50 Hourly
